art iI/III sketchbook assignment list
ART II SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENTS!
Sketchbook assignments are due every Friday!
Pick any one from the list in the unit we are in, and spend at least 30 minutes on it.
You must the page with the title of the prompt you chose and the date.
Make sure I know which page to look at - use a book mark, paperclip, or fold the page corner.
They are graded with a checklist:
10 pts total

Did you follow the drawing prompt and/or complete the assigned questions? 5 pts

Is it properly titled and dated? 1 pt
-
Did you put effort and care into it, and take at least 20-30 minutes to complete it? 4 pts
For each day late (unless absent), it is -1 point!
You can use any medium (pencil, marker, paint, etc), and any style (realistic, cartoony, etc).
You may NOT use stick figures! If you really can’t draw people, and need to for the assignment, at the very least try basic shapes people .
Reference images are not required, but always helpful!
Have fun! Choose a prompt you really like and have an exciting idea for!
Commissions -based Fine Artist

Ask a friend what to draw. Draw that.

Ask a parent what to draw. Draw that.

Ask another teacher what to draw. Draw that.

Ask a sibling what to draw. Draw that.
Scientific Illustration

Draw out whatever you are learning in science right now.

Draw something in nature (plant, animal, mineral), from life. Observe and record specific details.

Dissect something natural (fruit/vegetable, pinecone, etc) and draw it. Observe and record specific details.

Take an inanimate inorganic object (a toy, appliance, etc) and imagine that it has “anatomy”. Draw that anatomy.

Draw imaginative fake “anatomy” to illustrate what a part of the body does. (example: a little person peering through a telescope in an eye)
Portrait Artist
-
Draw someone from a photograph. Focus on light and shadow.

Draw someone from life. Focus on line.

Draw a full figure (from life, a photo, or imagination).

Draw a child/baby (from life, a photo, or imagination).

Draw an old person (from life, a photo, or imagination).

Draw someone from memory, then look at them in real life or at a picture. Write how they are actually different than how you drew them from memory.
Fashion Design
-
Draw yourself wearing your favorite outfit. Write why it is your favorite.

Draw yourself wearing something you wore/would typically wear in elementary school. Write a memory associated with that outfit.

Draw a very ugly outfit. Note what makes it so ugly.

Draw an outfit that someone from a COMPLETELY different time period or culture wears/wore. (Use a reference image). Make sure you include specific details.

Imagine you are a superhero. What is your power? What is your superhero name? Draw your superhero outfit.
Textile Design/ Interior Design

Notice a man-made pattern you see in your every-day life that you like. Draw it.

Notice a man-made pattern you see in your every-day life that you think is ugly. Draw it. Then give it a makeover; draw a beautiful version of it.

Notice a pattern of nature that you see in your every-day life. Draw it.

If you could give the school a makeover, what interior design changes would you implement? Write a list and draw something to represent one or more of the things on your list.

Choose a favorite book from childhood. Choose an illustration and copy it. Write why you like that book.

If there was a children’s book made about your life, what would the illustrations be like? Draw a scene or character from that hypothetical book in that style.

Illustrate a Bible verse that is important to you.

Draw an illustration relating to the most recent thing you read in English class.

Graphic Design

Copy the logo for a brand you like 3 times. Color it with three different color combinations. Circle the one you like best.

Create a personal logo. If your life was a ‘brand’, what would your logo be?

Copy the packaging for your favorite snack food (ex: box of poptarts).

Create new logo/package design for your favorite snack food.

Draw out a brochure advertising our school. (Include pictures and words)

Draw CCA’s crest (you can find it on posters in the hallways). Write what each of the symbols stand for.

Draw an advertisement for something that no one would want to buy. Draw it so that it would make people want to buy it.

Write down any words or references you did not understand. Look them up and write a brief definition.
